Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday declared that India is preparing for Operation Sindoor 2.0, underlining that the military posture adopted in response to Pakistan's actions after the Pahalgam terror attack remains active. Speaking to news agency ANI, he emphasized that Operation Sindoor is still ongoing and described the current situation as a temporary cessation of hostilities.
Tri-Service Preparedness and Synergy
General Dwivedi highlighted that not only the Army but also the Air Force and Navy are ready if a fresh operation becomes necessary. He stated, "The Indian Army and all three services are preparing well for Operation Sindoor 2.0, if it takes place. Presently, we are looking at enhancing our synergy within the three services, equipping ourselves for the next warfare... 24x7." This integrated approach aims to ensure seamless coordination among the forces.
Transparency on the Modern Battlefield
The Army chief noted that the battlefield is now highly transparent, with every movement visible to the opposing side. He stressed the need for caution in deployment, employment, and protection of troops and civilians in border areas. "We have to be very cautious in terms of our deployment, employment and the protection required to protect our troops as well as the civilians in the border areas," he added.
Information Warfare and National Unity
General Dwivedi emphasized that information warfare is successful only when the entire nation unites behind a common narrative. He said, "Information warfare is only successful if the whole of nation gets together and trusts the people who are giving the information. If that happens, I can assure you that the nation which trusts each other and all these stakeholders will always win the war." This underscores the importance of public trust and media credibility in modern conflicts.
Background of Operation Sindoor
India launched Operation Sindoor last year as a strong retaliatory military response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, executed during the night of May 7-8, 2025. The operation followed the April 22 terror attack in South Kashmir's Pahalgam, where Pakistan-backed terrorists opened fire in the scenic Baisaran Valley, killing 26 people. The operation demonstrated India's resolve to counter cross-border terrorism decisively.
The Army chief's remarks come amid heightened tensions along the border and underscore India's commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture. The preparation for Operation Sindoor 2.0 signals that India is ready to respond to any future provocations with enhanced capabilities and inter-service coordination.
