A court in Jammu on Monday remanded five individuals, including two Pakistani nationals, to 25-day judicial custody in a case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) concerning terrorist activities. The development comes after a series of arrests that began with the interception of a motorcycle in Srinagar.
Initial Seizure and Arrest
Police officers investigating logistical support for terror operations had intercepted a motorcycle in Srinagar. During the search, they recovered a grenade and 15 bullets from the possession of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat. Following his arrest, Bhat's interrogation provided leads that resulted in the apprehension of four more accused persons.
Charges and Legal Framework
The accused have been booked under various sections of the Arms Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Explosive Substances Act. These charges relate to their alleged involvement in providing logistical support for terrorist activities in the region.
The court's decision to grant 25-day judicial custody allows the NIA to continue its investigation while the accused remain in custody. The case highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle terror networks and supply chains in Jammu and Kashmir.
