Lucknow: Hussainganj police arrested five international drug traffickers late Tuesday night in the Charbagh area, seizing 7.7 kg of suspected cannabis smuggled from Thailand. The consignment was intended for supply in Delhi.
Arrests and Seizure
The accused were traveling in an SUV when they attempted to flee after seeing a police checking point. However, the vehicle was chased and stopped. Inspector Shiv Mangal Singh identified the arrested individuals as Priyanshu Tiwari, Rahul Sharma, Brijesh Rathore, Ravikant Tripathi, and Deepak Tyagi.
Police seized 7.7 kg of cannabis valued at approximately Rs 2 crore in the international market, along with the SUV and eight mobile phones.
International Network
According to police, the group is part of an international narcotics trafficking network. Ravikant Tripathi, who was operating while residing in Bangkok, arrived in Lucknow on May 4. Brijesh Rathore had received the cannabis consignment in Bangkok and traveled to India with the drugs before arriving at Lucknow airport on Tuesday.
The plan was to transport the consignment from Lucknow to Delhi in the SUV. Deepak Tyagi was tasked with retail distribution in Delhi, while the others handled supply logistics. The gang was preparing to send Deepak Tyagi to Delhi by bus with the narcotics.
All five accused have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
