Visakhapatnam: The mortal remains of marine chief engineer Patnala Suresh, who was killed in a US military strike on a commercial oil tanker off the coast of Oman, will arrive in the port city in the early hours of Friday. The authorities dispatched the body from Muscat to Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon.
After completing immigration formalities, the body will be transported from Hyderabad Airport to Visakhapatnam by road in an ambulance.
Background of the Incident
Patnala Suresh, a chief engineer from Visakhapatnam, lost his life in a US military strike on the oil tanker MT Settebello near Oman last week. He was among three Indian crew members who died in the attack. The authorities recovered his passport, certificates, and luggage from the ship and sent a video of the recovered items to the grieving family a few days ago.
Family and Government Response
Upon receiving the news, Suresh's wife Bhargavi and other family members traveled to Hyderabad Airport. The district administration deployed a deputy tehsildar-rank officer to receive the body. Suresh is survived by his wife and two sons.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Mangal, additional secretary of ports, shipping, and waterways, has directed the release of Rs 10 lakh to each of the deceased seafarers. Dr. P Krishna Prasad, CEO of the AP Non-Resident Telugu Society, urged the district collector to arrange the financial assistance for the bereaved family at the earliest.
