Prayagraj: After a pleasant Thursday, the city witnessed a rise in temperature again on Friday, with the maximum recorded at 35.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 22.4 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, the maximum temperature dropped to 31.6°C- around 9 degrees below normal-making it one of the most pleasant days in recent weeks. The relatively low daytime temperature also ensured a comfortable night, with residents enjoying cooler conditions and relief from the usual summer discomfort.
However, Friday witnessed partly cloudy skies with strong sunshine during the day, pushing mercury higher. People stepping out during afternoon hours experienced heat, though not as harsh as a week ago.
The previous dip in temperature was accompanied by light rain and overcast conditions, which helped keep the mercury significantly in check. Rural areas received slightly heavier showers compared to urban pockets, contributing to the cooling effect.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions over the next 48 hours are expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures likely to stay on the higher side and no immediate rainfall. A fresh spell of rain is expected on May 4 which may continue for a couple of days.
This upcoming rainfall is likely to bring down temperatures once again and offer intermittent relief. For now, however, the city is experiencing a gradual return to warmer conditions, although still milder as compared to earlier.
