Vladimir Putin has vowed revenge after Ukrainian drones set a Moscow refinery ablaze in the Russian capital. While acknowledging Kyiv's aerial attack, the Kremlin said measures were being taken to eliminate the consequences. On the other hand, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov slammed the United States, asking Washington to take note of what it called Kyiv's terrorist attacks.
Ukraine's Strategy
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil facilities, aiming to cut Moscow’s revenue for the war and make Russians feel the consequences of the invasion. Ukrainian drones attacked Putin's hometown of St. Petersburg earlier this month as he welcomed foreign VIPs to his showcase economic forum in the city.
Reactions from Russia
Putin's vow of revenge comes as Russian forces continue their offensive in Ukraine. The Kremlin has framed the drone strikes as acts of terrorism, with Lavrov urging the international community to condemn Kyiv's actions.
The attack on the Moscow refinery is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign to disrupt Russian energy infrastructure and undermine support for the war among the Russian public.
