Senator Marco Rubio faced a brutal grilling during a press briefing on Wednesday over what critics are calling a 'failure' in the U.S. operation against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio, however, stood firm, describing the Iranian actions as 'piracy, plain and simple.' He detailed the 'senseless attacks' on civilian vessels that have so far claimed the lives of 10 sailors.
U.S. Response and Naval Blockade
Rubio confirmed that seven Iranian fast boats have been destroyed by U.S. forces after ignoring warnings. He warned Tehran not to test the will of the United States, emphasizing that the U.S. naval blockade, combined with 'Operation Economic Fury,' is costing Iran an estimated $500 million per day. The U.S. has now deployed 15,000 troops and 100 aircraft to create a 'protective bubble' in the region.
Escalating Tensions
The briefing comes amid a series of escalating incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, including reports of renewed attacks on a bulk carrier and Iran deploying a so-called 'mosquito fleet' and 'dolphin bombs.' Rubio’s remarks were part of a broader effort to justify the U.S. military buildup, which has drawn both domestic and international scrutiny.
When pressed by reporters on the operation's effectiveness, Rubio acknowledged the challenges but insisted that the U.S. strategy is working. 'Don't test the will of the United States,' he warned, reiterating that the protective measures are necessary to safeguard global shipping lanes.
The situation remains volatile, with Iran issuing an explosive ultimatum and the IRGC warning that 'no power can weaken us.' Rubio’s press conference highlighted the deepening crisis, as the world watches for further developments.
