Russia Claims Capture of Five Settlements in Ukraine

Russia has claimed major success in the ongoing war against Ukraine, announcing the capture of five key settlements in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions over the past week. The Russian Defence Ministry stated that its forces carried out seven retaliatory strikes against Ukrainian military targets, including energy facilities, transport hubs, ports, airfields, ammunition depots, and drone launch sites used by Ukrainian forces.

Russian Offensive Details

The settlements captured are located in the strategically important eastern and northeastern regions of Ukraine. The Russian military emphasized that these gains were part of a broader offensive aimed at weakening Ukraine's defensive capabilities. The strikes were described as precise and effective, targeting infrastructure critical to Ukraine's military operations.

Ukrainian Retaliation

In response, Ukraine reported strikes on Russian energy infrastructure in the Republic of Dagestan and the Samara region. Additionally, Ukrainian forces targeted military and logistical facilities in the occupied regions of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk. Ukrainian officials claimed that several oil refineries and petrochemical plants caught fire following these attacks, causing significant damage to Russia's energy sector.
