Three people were charred to death in Andhra Pradesh early Tuesday after a truck rammed into another vehicle, causing the consignment of papers in the oncoming truck to go up in flames, according to an official.
Accident at Boyapalem village
The accident occurred around 6 am at Boyapalem village. The truck carrying papers collided with another vehicle, leading to a fire that engulfed both vehicles. The three victims were trapped inside and could not escape.
“The impact of the collision was such that the papers caught fire immediately, and the flames spread rapidly,” said a local police official. “The bodies were charred beyond recognition.”
Rescue and investigation
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames after several hours. The bodies have been recovered and sent for postmortem. Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
“We are looking into whether driver fatigue or overspeeding was a factor,” the official added. “The truck driver is being questioned.”
Impact on traffic
The accident caused a major traffic jam on the highway for several hours as vehicles were diverted. Commuters faced delays as authorities cleared the wreckage.
“We had to wait for nearly three hours before the road was cleared,” said a local resident. “Such accidents are common on this stretch due to poor lighting and narrow roads.”
