At least two people were killed and around 15 to 20 others were injured after a private sleeper bus collided with a tanker and caught fire on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district, police confirmed on Friday.
Details of the Accident
The incident occurred near pillar number 46 in the Matsena police station area. The double-decker bus, which was traveling from Kanpur to Gurugram, rammed into a canter tanker. The force of the collision triggered a massive fire that engulfed the bus within moments.
Casualties and Injuries
According to officials, the bus driver and conductor lost their lives in the accident. Several passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Firozabad city magistrate Vinod Kumar Pandey described the incident as "very tragic" and stated that approximately 15 to 20 people sustained injuries.
"A double-decker bus collided with a canter and caught fire. About 15-20 people were injured in the incident. Five people have been admitted to the Trauma Centre, while others have been referred to Shikohabad and Saifai," Pandey said.
Emergency Response
Police and fire department teams arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collision and the subsequent fire.
