Two men of Punjabi origin, Arman Singh (21) and Simarjeet Singh (22), have been arrested and charged under Canada's criminal code following an investigation by the Surrey Police Service (SPS) into a firing incident that occurred near a residence on June 11. Both individuals face charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and remain in custody, with a scheduled court appearance on June 29.
Incident Details
According to the SPS, officers responded shortly after 6:00 a.m. to reports of gunfire directed at a house located near 96 Avenue and 133A Street in Surrey. Upon arrival, they confirmed damage to the exterior of the residence, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Investigation and Arrests
The extortion response team (ExRT), supported by project assurance and frontline officers, took over the investigation after initial work by the major crime section. Investigators identified suspects and two associated residences, leading to the execution of search warrants. On June 12, ExRT members, with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and other SPS units, executed the warrants. Four men were arrested; two now face charges, while the other two remain in CBSA custody without charges.
Foreign Nationals and Ongoing Probes
The SPS confirmed that the accused are foreign nationals and stated that the CBSA has been engaged in the case. Police released photographs of Arman Singh and Simarjeet Singh, noting that disclosure is necessary to assist ongoing investigations. The SPS has urged witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with information that may help uncover criminal networks linked to violent extortions.
