Two Workers Electrocuted at Odisha Dam Site

Keonjhar: Two workers were electrocuted to death at the Kanupur irrigation dam construction site near Basudevpur under Joda police station limits on Sunday. The incident occurred around 11:30 am when the duo, identified as Bekkar Roy (34) and Apu Roy (33) of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, along with others, were welding at the spillway site. They received an electric shock and collapsed.

Medical Response and Investigation

Both workers were rushed to Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) before being referred to Dharanidhar Medical College Hospital in Keonjhar, where doctors declared them dead. Police reached the spot and initiated a probe. The bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem examination.

Safety Concerns Raised

Questions have been raised about worker safety at the site. Locals alleged that the workers were operating in an unsafe environment without adequate safety measures. They demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident. Since both victims belong to West Bengal, police began verifying whether the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act has been complied with.
