Exhibition Unveiled Ahead of Prime Minister Modi's Visit
The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) in Sydney has unveiled a major exhibition titled 'Avatar: Forms of Vishnu' as a cultural prelude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Australia. The showcase, which runs until October 2026, features 200 works ranging from ancient sculptures to contemporary art, all dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu, who is responsible for preserving cosmic order.
High Commissioner Highlights Cultural Significance
Australia's High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, announced the exhibition on social media, stating, 'As Australia prepares for Prime Minister Modi's visit, one of Australia's foremost galleries, @ArtGalleryofNSW is featuring works of Hindu iconographical art in the exhibition, "Avatar: Forms of Vishnu". On view until Oct'26, it presents 200 works from ancient sculptures to contemporary art.'
PM Modi's Australia Visit Announced
Earlier in May, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had announced a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Australia in the near future. Speaking to the press in New Delhi, Wong said, 'My Prime Minister has today announced that Prime Minister Modi will visit Australia in the very near future. We look forward to that visit.' She also expressed anticipation for meeting Modi later that day.
Strengthening India-Australia Strategic Partnership
Wong highlighted the deepening ties between the two countries, emphasizing their shared vision for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. 'We want to work together for our region and for our people,' she said. 'We (India-Australia) are comprehensive strategic partners. We have a relationship that is anchored in strategic trust. We have a great deal of strategic alignment. And our economic ties continue to deepen. India is the world's fastest-growing major economy. It's an essential economic partner for Australia. As we seek to diversify supply chains and grow our economy and our productivity, this relationship only grows.'
Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting
Wong participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting in New Delhi, alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The leaders underscored their commitment to deepening collaborations for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
