Indian Army to Participate in KHAAN QUEST Exercise in Mongolia

An Indian Army contingent is set to participate in Exercise KHAAN QUEST, a multilateral military exercise in Mongolia. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from June 20 to July 3 at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar. It will bring together military forces from across the world to collaborate and enhance interoperability in peacekeeping operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

Exercise Details

The previous edition of the exercise was conducted from June 14 to 28, 2025, in Mongolia. The Indian Army contingent comprises 40 personnel, represented by troops from a battalion of the Jat Regiment along with personnel from other arms and services.

History and Significance

The exercise started as a bilateral event between the US and Mongolian defence forces in 2003. From 2006 onwards, it became a multilateral peacekeeping exercise, with the latest one being its 23rd iteration. India's participation reflects its steadfast commitment to global peace and strategic partnership with Mongolia.

Aim and Focus

The aim of Exercise KHAAN QUEST is to prepare contingents of participating defence forces for peacekeeping missions while operating in a multilateral environment. The exercise will focus on joint planning and tactical drills such as establishment of static and mobile check points, cordon and search operations, patrolling, evacuation of civilians from hostile areas, counter improvised explosive device drills, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation.
