The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a revised security advisory urging Indian nationals to continue avoiding all non-essential travel to Iran, despite recent positive developments in the region. The advisory, released on Wednesday, emphasizes that while the overall security situation has improved, caution remains necessary.
Advisory Details and Recommendations
In a formal statement posted on X, the Embassy stated: "The Embassy of India, Tehran, has been closely monitoring the prevailing security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In light of recent positive developments and the improvement in the overall situation, the Embassy wishes to issue the following revised advisory for Indian nationals contemplating travel to Iran. Notwithstanding the recent improvements, Indian nationals are advised to continue to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran until further notice."
The Embassy further urged Indian citizens already residing in Iran or those traveling for unavoidable functional reasons to maintain a high degree of vigilance, caution, and situational awareness. They are advised to follow credible local information sources and adhere to instructions from local authorities.
Registration and Emergency Contacts
The Embassy strongly recommended that all Indian nationals in Iran register their details with the Embassy as soon as possible. It also provided emergency contact information: mobile numbers +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359, along with an email address cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.
"All Indian nationals currently in Iran, and those arriving in Iran, are strongly advised to register their particulars with the Embassy of India, Tehran, at the earliest opportunity. They are also advised to regularly monitor the Embassy's official website and social media platforms for updates and any further advisories that may be issued," the Embassy wrote.
Context of Diplomatic Efforts
The advisory follows the conclusion of initial technical talks as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia between the US and Iran. Both sides have agreed to establish a High-Level Committee and a roadmap toward a final agreement within 60 days. However, foundational disagreements persist, including over international verification access, maritime administration of the Strait of Hormuz, and repatriation of frozen Iranian financial reserves.
Despite the acceleration of diplomatic efforts, the Indian Embassy continues to advise caution, reflecting the volatile nature of the region. Indian nationals are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring the Embassy's official website and social media channels for further updates.
