The Kremlin has clarified that during the latest telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump, the possibility of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not discussed.
Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy aide to Putin, told reporters on Wednesday that no one had approached Russia with such a proposal. 'No one has approached us with such a proposal,' Ushakov stated, addressing questions about a potential trilateral meeting.
The call, which took place earlier this week, covered a range of bilateral and international issues, but the topic of a meeting with Zelenskyy was not on the agenda, according to the Kremlin. This clarification comes amid ongoing speculation about possible diplomatic engagements to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Ushakov emphasized that Russia remains open to dialogue but only under conditions that respect its interests. The statement underscores the continued tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with no immediate prospects for high-level talks involving all parties.
