Navi Mumbai: In a combing operation by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Navi Mumbai crime branch across various nodes on Thursday, as many as nine African nationals, including six men and three women, were detained for overstaying their visas and violating the Passports Act and Foreigners Act, apart from already being booked in NDPS cases.
Details of the Operation
Sandeep Nigade, senior inspector of ANC, said, "Out of nine detained Africans, NDPS Act and Passports Act cases are registered against five of them residing in Kharghar and Taloja. Two others from Kharghar and Taloja will be deported to their native country, Nigeria, as they were found to be overstaying in India after their visas expired. Two Africans from Ulwe and Panvel were found to have married Indian women. Also, an FIR was registered against two landlords under the Immigration and Foreigners Act for defying the law while renting their apartments to African nationals."
Legal Actions Taken
The ANC team conducted thorough searches in multiple nodes, leading to the detention of the nine individuals. The five Africans facing NDPS and Passports Act charges are currently in custody, while legal proceedings for deportation of the two overstaying individuals have been initiated. The two Africans who married Indian women are being investigated for potential visa irregularities. Additionally, the landlords have been booked for non-compliance with the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the Navi Mumbai police to curb illegal activities and ensure compliance with immigration laws. The ANC continues to monitor and take action against foreign nationals violating Indian laws.
