Tourists Misled by Google Maps to Kashmir Village in Hamirpur

Australian tourists, intending to visit the Kashmir Valley, were misled by Google Maps and instead arrived at a village named Kashmir in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, on July 11, 2026. The incident occurred in Nadaun Assembly constituency, where locals were surprised to see a three-wheeler carrying tourists on the narrow village road.

Confusion and Hospitality

The tourists, identified as Australian citizens via social media, were reportedly confused upon arrival. Hazara Singh, a local resident, stated, "Not only the villagers but the tourists themselves were confused after reaching the village. However, they enjoyed the trip and talked to the people, who guided them the right way." The villagers advised the tourists to proceed to Nadaun, then to Pathankot via Kangra to reach their intended destination.

Geographical Context

Kashmir village is situated on the banks of Maan Khud, a tributary of the Beas River, and has a population of over 1,500. It is believed the tourists may have searched for "Kashmir" while crossing highways in Una district, leading Google Maps to direct them to the village of the same name in Hamirpur.
