In a heartbreaking tragedy, a 26-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the Meramec river in Missouri, United States, while celebrating his birthday with friends. The incident occurred on Saturday at Meramec State Park near Sullivan, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Singireddy Sai Sree Hari Krishna, hailing from Piridi village in Vizianagaram district, had checked into a resort with his friends on Saturday. According to officials who spoke on Sunday, Hari Krishna later entered the river for a swim. Tragically, he became trapped in underwater weeds that ensnared his legs and pulled him down. Despite his struggles, he went under and did not resurface. Crews from the Sullivan fire department subsequently recovered his body, as confirmed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Background and Family of the Deceased
Hari Krishna had traveled to the United States in 2023 after completing his BTech from a private college. He further pursued a master's degree in engineering and had recently secured a position at Elessent Clean Technologies in St Louis, located approximately 130 kilometers from Sullivan. He was the youngest of three siblings, leaving behind two married sisters and his parents. His father, Srinivasa Rao, works as an auto-rickshaw driver, while his mother, Ramadevi, is employed at a primary health centre.
Family's Grief and Appeal for Assistance
Residents of Piridi village shared that Hari Krishna had spoken to his parents just days before the incident, promising to send money to purchase a small plot of land and build a house for the family. In the wake of this devastating loss, his family has approached a state minister seeking help to repatriate his body from the United States. This appeal underscores the emotional and logistical challenges faced by families in such cross-border tragedies.
