Emergency Flood Alert for Southern California
The National Weather Prediction Centre has issued a serious flash flood warning for Southern California, including Los Angeles, as a powerful storm system approaches the region. The weather department confirmed the alert on Saturday, November 15, 2025, anticipating dangerous conditions through Sunday morning.
Atmospheric River Brings Flood Threat
According to weather experts, an atmospheric river event associated with a slow-moving low-pressure system is moving toward the California coast. This weather phenomenon is expected to continue impacting Southern and Central California throughout the day, bringing intense rainfall that could trigger numerous flash floods and debris flows.
The WPC has maintained a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall across coastal Southern California. This represents the second-highest danger category in their warning system, indicating significant threat to life and property.
Evacuation Orders for Vulnerable Areas
Emergency officials have issued evacuation warnings specifically for properties located in burn scar regions. These areas face heightened risk of debris flows due to previous wildfire damage that has left the terrain unstable. The affected communities include:
- Canyon, Bethany, and Eaton
- Palisades, Hurst, and Kenneth
- Sunset, Lidia, and Franklin
- Bridge, Agua, and Owen
- Land and Fish areas
The evacuation orders remain effective through Sunday, November 16, at 8 AM for targeted parcels in these high-risk zones. Local authorities emphasize that residents should prepare immediately and have evacuation plans ready.
Official Warnings and Safety Measures
NWS Los Angeles delivered an urgent message on social media platform X, stating: "Heavy rain is incoming starting within the hour, with an increasing risk of dangerous flooding, especially for LA County. Turn around if you approach a flooded road and listen to orders from local authorities for any actions you may need to take."
Echoing this warning, the LA County Sheriff posted: "Heavy rain is on the way to LA County. If you live in or near the Palisades or Eaton Fire burn zones, please prepare and have a plan for evacuations if they become necessary."
The flash flood warning covers multiple Southern California communities including Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Torrance, Inglewood, Compton, and Malibu. Residents in these areas should monitor official updates closely and be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen.
Emergency management officials stress that the primary concerns are flash flooding and debris flows, particularly in areas previously affected by wildfires. The combination of saturated ground and intense rainfall creates perfect conditions for dangerous mudslides and rapid water accumulation.
