Indian-Origin Entrepreneur Faces US Visa Rejection Over 'Weak Ties' to Home Country
Jasveer Singh, an Indian-origin founder and CEO, has been denied a B1/B2 visa for the United States, with consular officers citing his "weak ties to India" as the primary reason. Singh, who is listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia, expressed his frustration on social media platform X, detailing how he has built his life and businesses in India over the past 13 years.
Visa Denied Under Section 214(b) of Immigration Act
The rejection was made under Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which requires applicants to demonstrate strong connections to their home country that would compel their return after a temporary US visit. According to the US Department of State website, this section applies when applicants fail to sufficiently prove they qualify for non-immigrant visas.
Singh called the reasoning "ironic" given his substantial contributions to India. "I run a company in India, employ people in India, pay taxes in India and have built everything here over the last 13 years," he stated. "Apparently that is not enough proof that I'll return to India."
Founder Calls for Review of US Embassy Evaluation Process
In his social media post, Singh directly addressed the US Embassy in India, criticizing their evaluation criteria and calling for a "serious review" of their processes. He specifically mentioned the New Delhi consulate teams, suggesting they need better training.
"I'm more committed to India than your process is to logic," Singh wrote. "Mr @USAmbIndia and team, if this is your bar, either your definition of intent is broken or your evaluation process needs serious review. Train your New Delhi consulate teams better."
Social Media Scrutiny and Advice for Future Applicants
The entrepreneur revealed that social media profiles of visa applicants are being reviewed as part of the evaluation process. He shared that a friend advised deleting tweets about the US and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) before subsequent interviews, suggesting this might improve approval chances.
This advice comes amid increased scrutiny under recent US immigration policies, which include more thorough social media reviews as part of broader efforts to address illegal immigration concerns.
Background of the Entrepreneur and His Ventures
Jasveer Singh is the co-founder and CEO of Knot Dating, an AI-powered conversational matchmaking app that has received funding from entrepreneurs featured on Shark Tank India. He also leads Hood, a pseudonymous social networking app that gained recognition through the same program.
His educational background includes:

Broader Context of US Visa Rejections for Indian Entrepreneurs
Singh's case is not isolated. Numerous Indian entrepreneurs have recently spoken out about increased US visa rejections, particularly as immigration policies have intensified scrutiny. The trend reflects broader challenges faced by business professionals seeking temporary entry to the United States.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions between immigration enforcement priorities and the facilitation of legitimate business travel, raising questions about how consular officers assess "strong ties" to home countries for successful entrepreneurs with significant domestic investments.
