Indian Medical Students Targeted in Brutal Stabbing Attack at Russian University
In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the international student community, four Indian medical students were among six individuals injured in a violent stabbing attack at the Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, Russia. The attack occurred on Saturday within a sports hall located in a hostel designated for foreign students in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Chilling Details Emerge: Swastika Drawn with Victims' Blood
Local Russian media outlets have reported horrifying additional details about the assault. According to reports from the Baza Telegram channel, the alleged attacker, identified as a supporter of a banned neo-Nazi organization, drew a Swastika symbol on a wall using the blood of his victims during the frenzied attack. The channel shared a photograph showing the blood-stained wall, corroborating these claims.
"The organization is designated as a terrorist organization and is banned in Russia," the Baza report stated, adding that the suspect reportedly shouted nationalist slogans referencing the Holocaust during the assault. The group in question, identified as the banned NS/WP neo-Nazi outfit, has been officially proscribed by Russian authorities.
Embassy Response and Official Reactions
The Embassy of India in Russia swiftly responded to the crisis, posting on social media platform X: "An unfortunate incident of attack has occurred in Ufa. Several persons, including four Indian students, have been injured." The embassy confirmed that officials from the Consulate in Kazan are en route to Ufa to provide necessary assistance and support to the injured students.
In the aftermath of the attack, the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has taken a proactive stance. The association has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, formally requesting that diplomatic steps be taken to ensure justice for the victims, strengthen safety mechanisms for Indian students abroad, and provide comprehensive support to those affected by this violent incident.
Graphic Evidence Circulates on Social Media
Gruesome videos and images from the attack have surfaced across various social media platforms, revealing the severity of the assault. A purported video shared by AIMSA depicted the university premises with floors smeared with blood, offering a grim visual account of the violence. Eyewitnesses quoted by Russian media described scenes of chaos, with one stating, "there was blood all around," as footage showed wounded individuals being transported to hospitals via ambulance vans.
The local Chaibasa Sadar police station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the incident, initiating a formal investigation into the attack that has left the international academic community in a state of alarm and raised serious concerns about student safety in foreign educational institutions.
