US VP JD Vance's Cincinnati Home Attacked: Windows Smashed, Suspect Held
JD Vance's Home Attacked, Suspect in Custody

The Cincinnati home of United States Vice President JD Vance was targeted in an overnight attack, resulting in several smashed windows. The incident prompted an immediate response from the US Secret Service and local police authorities in the early hours of Monday.

Security Response and Suspect Detained

Secret Service agents rushed to the Vice President's residence in the East Walnut Hills neighbourhood following the vandalism. A person has been taken into custody in connection with the attack, as confirmed by law enforcement. However, authorities have not yet disclosed whether formal charges have been filed against the detained individual.

Local police informed outlet WCPO that a suspect was detained but withheld further specifics. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this initial stage of the investigation.

Vance's Whereabouts During the Incident

It was not immediately confirmed where Vice President Vance was at the exact time the attack occurred on his property. Reports indicate he was known to have been in Florida last Friday, where he spent the day with President Donald Trump at the President’s golf club in West Palm Beach.

During that meeting, Vance and Trump reportedly discussed the impending US strikes on Venezuela and the operation aimed at removing President Nicolás Maduro. However, Vance did not join Trump and other senior officials at Mar-a-Lago to watch the operation unfold. This decision was reportedly due to concerns that his presence could compromise operational security.

Instead, the Vice President monitored the sensitive operation via a secure video conference link. His office stated he was "deeply integrated in the process and planning". Once the operation concluded, Vance flew back to Cincinnati.

Heightened Security and Aftermath

Following the incident, police and Secret Service personnel were seen inside and around the property. It is believed that neither Vance nor any members of his family were at home when the attack took place.

This vandalism comes after a period of heightened security in the area over the New Year period. According to city officials, roads surrounding Vance's residence had been closed for several days until just Sunday. Checkpoints were established, and residents were advised to expect a significant law enforcement presence.

In an official statement, Vance's office referenced increased security concerns, noting that the administration has aimed to limit the frequency and duration of the Vice President and President being co-located away from the White House as a precautionary measure.
