US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor announced on Monday that a high-level Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) meeting will take place in the Philippines in approximately two weeks, marking a significant step in Indo-Pacific security cooperation.
Announcement at USISPF Leadership Summit
Speaking at the IX US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit 2026 in Washington DC, Gor confirmed that all four partner nations—the United States, India, Australia, and Japan—are aligned to deepen their theatre-level alliances. He stated, "I want to make an announcement here today... we were very pleased to have the quad meeting in Delhi. And that's something we aim to build on."
Gor added, "One of the things that we're actually looking to do is in about two weeks, all four of our foreign ministers will be in the Philippines." He clarified that this meeting would not replace other planned Quad engagements, noting, "We do aim to have a quad meeting at some point, a ministerial quad meeting in Australia. But in the meantime, in two weeks, we're hopeful to have this quad meeting in the Philippines with all four of our partners."
Building on Recent Delhi Meeting
The announcement follows the 11th Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in New Delhi in May 2026, reinforcing the alliance's rapid institutionalisation under the current US administration. The Quad has emerged as a key platform for cooperation on maritime security, critical technologies, supply chain resilience, and humanitarian assistance in the Indo-Pacific.
Plans for Leaders' Summit
Earlier on June 3, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed efforts to schedule a Quad leaders' summit later this year, possibly on the sidelines of a major international gathering in the region. During testimony before the Foreign Affairs Committee, Rubio said, "We are hoping to be able to do one this year, maybe on the sidelines of another global gathering in the region... We're working on getting that scheduled." He highlighted ongoing coordination with Australia, Japan, and India, stating, "Australia's also part of the Quad that we have with Japan and India... We have a lot we're working on together with them and seek to expand it."
Quad's Strategic Role
The Quad comprises India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, and serves as a cornerstone for Indo-Pacific cooperation. The upcoming meeting in the Philippines underscores the group's commitment to a defence-forward agenda and flexible diplomatic engagement.
