Trump Endorses Iran Strikes with 'Boom' Post on Truth Social

US President Donald Trump endorsed American military strikes on Iran by sharing a post that read "I voted for this" alongside an animated explosion with the word "Boom" on his platform Truth Social. The action came hours after US forces struck more than 80 military targets inside Iran, according to defence officials.

Details of the US Military Operation

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that American forces deployed precision-guided munitions to target Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile infrastructure, and over 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fast-attack craft operating in the region. The strikes were in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM described Iran's aggression as "unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire."

Iran's Response and Accusations

Tehran responded by warning it would "take whatever measures it deems necessary," raising international concerns that the interim truce might collapse. Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf posted on X, listing several "major violations" of the Memorandum of Understanding by the US, including "violating Iranian adjustments in the Strait," "persistent threats of further strikes," "reinstating oil sanctions," "attacks on southern Iran," and "continued Zionist aggression" in Lebanon. He warned, "The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don't fold."

Regional and Diplomatic Implications

Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, activated its missile alert sirens following the strikes. The military engagements occurred during the funeral of Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 at age 86. High-level negotiations for a permanent peace agreement were scheduled to begin after the burial, focusing on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and rolling back Iran's nuclear programme. The latest escalation has cast significant uncertainty over the diplomatic talks.
