President Donald Trump on Friday (June 19) inspected his upgraded Boeing 747, a plane gifted by Qatar, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland as the aircraft nears delivery to join the Air Force One fleet. The jumbo aircraft, offered by Qatar as a gift to the president last year, was overhauled by defense contractor L3Harris Technologies. It has been flight-tested and painted in a red, white, dark blue, and gold livery chosen by Trump.
Enhanced Features and Rapid Upgrades
The addition to Trump's fleet provides a more modern and luxurious plane for the president, his aides, security detail, and the media. The upgrade's cost has not been disclosed, and the work was completed so quickly that some experts fear it may not be as secure as the existing Air Force One aircraft.
Livery and Design
The new livery features a distinctive red, white, dark blue, and gold scheme, personally selected by President Trump. This design marks a departure from the traditional blue and white scheme of previous Air Force One planes.
Security Concerns
Despite the rapid turnaround, some security experts have raised concerns about the aircraft's vulnerability. The expedited process may have compromised certain security protocols typically implemented in presidential aircraft.
The plane is expected to join the Air Force One fleet soon, providing a state-of-the-art travel experience for the president and his entourage.
