Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Meets Maharashtra CM Fadnavis
Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday to outline a deeper technological partnership between the e-commerce giant and India's most industrialised state. The meeting, Jassy's first India visit since becoming CEO, focused on how Amazon's investments in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, and logistics can help Maharashtra double its economy by 2030.
Amazon described Maharashtra as the "anchor" of its Indian operations, noting that the state is home to AWS's first India infrastructure Region and a growing technology and operations workforce across Mumbai, Pune, and beyond. The company highlighted its long-term commitment to the state through multiple verticals.
AI as Transformational Technology
Jassy called AI the most transformational technology he has seen in his lifetime and pointed to India's deep engineering talent base and rapid digital adoption as reasons the country is positioned not just as a consumer of AI but as a builder and innovator. "India has the scale, talent and ambition to shape the next era of AI-led business transformation," the company said in a press release.
During his visit, Jassy also met top Indian business leaders to discuss AI and innovation, reinforcing Amazon's belief that "India will be where some of AI's most important applications are built."
Supporting Maharashtra's Digital Economy
The conversation covered how Amazon's investments in AI, cloud infrastructure, e-commerce, and logistics are helping businesses in the state grow, reach new customers, and compete globally. Amazon also discussed exports enablement for local sellers and manufacturers, as well as skilling programmes preparing young professionals for future jobs.
Maharashtra is also at the heart of Amazon's entertainment business in India, with Prime Video's creative operations based in Mumbai. Prime Video continues to commission original Indian stories and work with the state's film and creative community, telling stories from India to more than 240 countries worldwide.
Strategic Meeting for Digital Future
The high-level meeting bridged policy and technology, with both sides exploring how Amazon's investments can accelerate Maharashtra's goal of doubling its economy by 2030. Amazon's press release emphasised that the company is supporting the state through exports enablement and skilling initiatives aimed at building talent for the jobs of the future.
Jassy's visit underscores Amazon's deepening engagement with India, particularly in Maharashtra, which serves as a hub for its technology, logistics, and entertainment operations. The meeting signals a continued focus on AI-led growth and digital transformation in the region.
