Gujarat Remains Largely Unaffected by National Trade Union Strike
The nationwide strike called by central trade unions on Thursday had a negligible impact in Gujarat, with normal life and commercial activities proceeding without interruption across the state. Major urban centers, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, reported no significant disruptions, as markets, industries, educational institutions, and transport services operated as usual.
Transport and Business Operations Continue Smoothly
State-run GSRTC buses and the Ahmedabad metro services adhered to their regular schedules, ensuring seamless connectivity for commuters. Private offices, factories, and financial institutions maintained normal attendance levels, with workers largely opting not to participate in the strike. In Ahmedabad, textile markets conducted routine business, with industry representatives confirming that employees did not join the industrial action.
Ashish Zaveri of Ahmedabad Vepari Mahajan stated that city markets remained open and commercial establishments functioned normally, with traders and workers attending work as usual. This underscores the limited influence of the strike call in the region's bustling economic hubs.
Partial Disruptions in Public Sector Banking
However, public sector banks experienced partial participation from employees affiliated with trade unions. Banking sources revealed that transactions worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore were impacted due to the closure of PSU bank branches during the day. Despite this financial setback, no major operational disruptions were reported in other sectors, highlighting the strike's selective effect.
The overall scenario in Gujarat reflects a state where daily life and commerce were largely insulated from the nationwide protest, with only the banking sector witnessing notable but contained disruptions.
