The Haryana Petroleum Dealers Welfare Association has expressed strong resentment over the imposition of a 200-litre cap on diesel dispensing nozzles at petrol pumps by oil companies. This has resulted in the automated sealing of 29 diesel nozzles in the state. The association has demanded that the closed nozzles be reopened immediately.
Government directive on diesel diversion
The state government on May 30 directed district administrations to set up committees to check the diversion of diesel from petrol pumps for commercial and industrial purposes. The decision was taken following complaints about the rising prices of industrial diesel, which escalated to Rs 109 per litre during the crisis.
Impact on dealers and consumers
The cap has created operational challenges for petrol pump dealers, who argue that it hampers their ability to serve customers effectively. They claim that the measure is unnecessary and punishes legitimate businesses. The association has urged the government to reconsider the policy and restore normal dispensing limits.
Dealers have also pointed out that the automated sealing system does not differentiate between genuine consumers and those diverting fuel, leading to inconvenience for the public. They have called for a more targeted approach to prevent misuse without affecting regular supply.
