Strategic Meeting in Washington DC
Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) S Krishnan met with United States Under Secretary of State Jacob S Helberg in Washington, DC on June 25, 2026, to deepen bilateral technological cooperation. The discussions focused on building diversified and trusted supply chains, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing, AI adoption, and securing access to critical minerals, according to a post on X by the Indian Embassy in the US.
Pax Silica Initiative
The meeting followed India's formal joining of the US-led Pax Silica initiative by signing a declaration on February 20, 2026, in New Delhi. Pax Silica is designed to foster secure AI supply chains, trusted technology ecosystems, and pro-innovation regulations. India was among the first countries invited to join, underscoring mutual trust between the two nations.
US Ambassador Highlights Trust
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, speaking at a gala reception in Hyderabad commemorating the 250th anniversary of American Independence, emphasized the growing strategic partnership. He noted that the strong relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, combined with deep mutual trust, has unlocked 'unlimited potential' between the two countries. Gor stated, 'When the United States announced a new initiative called Pax Silica, India was one of the first 10 countries that we invited to join. That is because we trust India. When the United States needs medicine, 40 per cent of our generics today come from India. Why is that? Because we trust India.'
Broad Cooperation Across Sectors
Gor highlighted that India and the United States are working together across defence, trade, pharmaceuticals, space, and emerging technologies. He noted that India conducts more military exercises with the US than with any other country, and India exports more to the US than to any other nation. 'If you pick any item around the world, India and the United States are already partnered or will be partnered on it,' Gor added.
Impact on Global Supply Chains
The strengthened partnership aims to reduce dependency on single sources for critical components, especially in semiconductors—a sector where global shortages have underscored the need for diversification. The collaboration on AI adoption is expected to drive innovation in both countries, while securing access to critical minerals is vital for manufacturing electronics and renewable energy technologies. The talks signal a strategic alignment to build resilient supply chains amid geopolitical uncertainties.
