Indian Filmmakers Honored with Academy Invitation
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 529 distinguished artists and executives to join its membership for 2026. Among the invitees are three prominent Indian film personalities: composer and director Vishal Bhardwaj, editor Sreekar Prasad, and editor Deepa Bhatia. Vishal Bhardwaj, known for his work in Hindi cinema, has been invited in the Music Branch. He is celebrated for his compositions in films like Haider and Omkara. Sreekar Prasad, a veteran editor with over 200 films to his credit, including Kumbalangi Nights and Firaaq, joins the Film Editors Branch. Deepa Bhatia, an editor known for Taare Zameen Par and My Name Is Khan, is also invited to the Film Editors Branch. According to the Academy, the 2026 class includes members from 57 countries, with 44% being women and 41% from underrepresented ethnic or racial communities.
