Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Applauds State Budget Focus on Regional Development

The Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has extended a warm welcome to the State Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Following a live telecast of the budget session, KCCI office bearers issued a press release expressing their approval of the financial plan, which they believe effectively balances resource mobilization for state development with the pressures of funding guarantee schemes.

Key Budget Announcements Praised by KCCI

In their detailed assessment, KCCI highlighted several new initiatives that are set to benefit the region significantly. A notable revision includes increased compensation for those affected by the Almatti dam height increase, now set at Rs 30 lakh per acre for dry land and Rs 40 lakh per acre for irrigated land, a move described as commendable.

The budget allocates Rs 600 crore for railway projects across the state, with special funding earmarked for tourism development under the Gadag, Kappatagudda, Lakkundi tourism circuit. This allocation has brought considerable happiness to the local populace, anticipating enhanced connectivity and economic opportunities.

Healthcare and Industrial Infrastructure Boost

Significant investments in healthcare infrastructure were also lauded. The establishment of a Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Heart Care Centre in Hubballi at a cost of Rs 236 crore is expected to revolutionize cardiac care in the region. Additionally, a 450-bed multi-specialty hospital in Karwar has been approved with an investment of Rs 198 crore, promising improved medical services for coastal areas.

On the industrial front, the budget includes an allocation of Rs 10 crore to the Industrial Exhibition Authority. KCCI expressed hope that a portion of this grant will be directed towards the Hubballi–Dharwad Multi-Purpose Exhibition Centre at Amaragol, which is maintained by the Chamber, thereby supporting local business exhibitions and trade fairs.

Agricultural and Silk Sector Initiatives

The government's plan to establish a Silk Park in Haveri and set up farmers' malls to benefit ryots has been welcomed as a progressive step. The proposal to create agricultural malls through the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India, aimed at making all agricultural products available under one roof, was also appreciated for its potential to streamline supply chains and boost farmer incomes.

Focus on North Karnataka and Coastal Regions

KCCI observed that this budget appears to prioritize North Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka, ensuring geographical benefits across all sections of society. A key announcement includes the allocation of Rs 600 crore for land acquisition of 1,000 acres for the Dharwad Industrial Node, with Rs 200 crore earmarked for the current financial year. This step is seen as crucial for industrial expansion and job creation.

Recently, during a pre-budget meeting with the chief minister, KCCI had advocated for an action plan under the Beyond Bengaluru concept to generate employment opportunities for youth and encourage investment in Hubballi–Dharwad and North Karnataka. The CM's positive response, reflected in the budget, has brought great satisfaction to industries in the region, signaling a commitment to decentralized development.

KCCI Leadership and Presence

The press release was issued following the budget viewing by key KCCI office bearers, including president GK Adappagoudar, vice-presidents Praveen Agadi, Siddeshwar Kammar, Veeranna Kallur, honorary secretary Uday Revankar, CA YM Khatawkar, and members Subhash Bagalkoti, CG Dharwadshettar, and Brahmakumar Bilagi.
