Rajnath: Conventional Military Capabilities Still Relevant

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Friday that despite the evolving nature of warfare and the rise of new-age security threats, conventional military capabilities and means remain as relevant as they were in 1947. He emphasized that a strong military-industrial base is essential for the country's security.

Inauguration of Aluminium Extrusion Press

Singh made these remarks while performing the groundbreaking ceremony for a 10,000-tonne aluminium extrusion press in Nagpur. The new facility will support the manufacture of large and complex aluminium alloy profiles required for defence systems, platforms, aerospace, and aviation structures. The project aims to reduce dependence on imports of critical aluminium extrusions.

Strategic Importance

Singh noted that this extrusion press addresses a crucial need. Modern fighter jets, missiles, and advanced space programmes require metals that are lightweight and strong, capable of withstanding extreme conditions. The proposed plant will supply high-grade aluminium not only for manufacturing fighter planes by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) but also for other public sector undertakings such as Mazagon Docks, Bharat Dynamics, and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
