Vigilance Raids Unearth Assets Worth Crores of Engineer

Koraput: Assets worth crores of rupees, including two flats, two farmhouses spread across 14 acres, 49 plots, nearly a kilogram of gold, and over Rs 60 lakh in deposits, were unearthed during Vigilance raids on properties linked to Satyanarayan Sethy, assistant executive engineer (AEE) of Kotpad block in Koraput district.

Details of the Raids

According to a Vigilance press release issued on Friday, simultaneous searches were carried out by a seven-member vigilance team, led by seven DSPs, assisted by nine inspectors, 11 ASIs, and other supporting staff, at seven locations across Koraput, Khordha, and Kendrapada districts. The searches were conducted on allegations that Sethy possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The operations were based on warrants issued by the special judge, vigilance, Jeypore.

Properties Discovered

The searches led to the detection of a 2-BHK flat at Jatani in Khordha district and another allegedly benami 2-BHK flat at Jeypore purchased in the name of a close associate. Investigators also found two farmhouses with mango, eucalyptus, and nilgiri plantations spread over 10.03 acres and 4.35 acres respectively at Taragaon under Boriguma tehsil.

Furthermore, vigilance unearthed 49 plots in Koraput district, including 17 suspected benami plots allegedly purchased in the name of a relative. Measurement and valuation of the properties are being carried out by the vigilance technical wing.

Recovered Assets

Besides immovable assets, Vigilance officials recovered Rs 5.48 lakh cash, gold jewellery weighing 940.66 grams, silver ornaments weighing 2.49 kg, deposits worth Rs 60.92 lakh, a suspected benami four-wheeler and a benami two-wheeler, and household articles valued at around Rs 5.52 lakh.

Investigation Ongoing: The official is being examined to ascertain the source of the assets. Further searches are continuing, reads the vigilance release.

Career Background

Sethy joined government service as a junior engineer in January 1998 and was promoted as assistant engineer in 2015. He was elevated to the rank of assistant executive engineer in September 2025, the release said.
