BioAsia 2026 Kickstarts with Major Investment Announcements in Hyderabad

The inauguration of BioAsia 2026 in Hyderabad has set the stage for significant advancements in the life sciences and technology sectors, with multiple global companies unveiling substantial investment plans. The event, held under the theme "TechBio Unleashed: AI, Automation, and the Biology Revolution," witnessed announcements that promise to enhance Hyderabad's position as a premier hub for innovation and healthcare.

Global Capability Centres Expand in Hyderabad

In a notable development, Opella Healthcare, a French consumer healthcare company spun off from Sanofi, announced the expansion of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad. The company will establish a new 42,000 square foot facility, aiming to create approximately 500 jobs within the next year. This move underscores Hyderabad's growing appeal as a destination for international healthcare operations.

Simultaneously, Tredence Inc, a US-based AI and data science firm, revealed plans to set up a dedicated innovation hub focused on AI-driven healthcare and life sciences analytics. Initially spanning 18,000 square feet and housing around 400 employees, the hub is projected to expand to 100,000 square feet over the next couple of years, accommodating over 2,200 professionals. This initiative highlights the increasing integration of artificial intelligence in medical research and development.

Vaccine Manufacturing and Infrastructure Investments

On the manufacturing front, Vaksindo Animal Health, a division of Indonesia's JAPFA, announced it will establish a BSL-3 vaccine manufacturing facility in Genome Valley. This facility will produce vaccines for poultry, cattle, swine, and aquaculture, addressing critical needs in animal health and agriculture.

Further bolstering Hyderabad's infrastructure, Rx Propellant (RxP), an existing investor in Genome Valley, committed to developing a large-format life sciences campus spread over 12 acres. The project, with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, will feature over 1 million square feet of advanced laboratory infrastructure. It will be delivered in phases over the next six years, as confirmed by Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, enhancing the region's capabilities in biotech research and development.

Recognition and Awards at the Inaugural Session

The inaugural session also celebrated milestones, with Novartis marking 25 years of its GCC presence in India. The company unveiled a commemorative logo recognizing Hyderabad as its largest centre globally outside Basel, Switzerland. Additionally, Prof Bruce L Levine of the University of Pennsylvania was honored with the Genome Valley Excellence Award for his contributions to cancer gene therapy, emphasizing the event's focus on scientific excellence.

High-Level Meetings and Future Prospects

On the sidelines of the event, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu held strategic meetings with senior executives from leading companies, including Miltenyi Biotec, Sanofi, MSD, Takeda, and Google DeepMind, as well as representatives from Indonesia. These discussions are expected to foster further collaborations and investments in Hyderabad's burgeoning life sciences ecosystem.
