Dabur India Commences Construction of First South India Manufacturing Facility in Tamil Nadu
In a significant development for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, Dabur India has officially broken ground for its inaugural manufacturing plant in South India. The facility is being established in Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu, marking a strategic expansion for the company into the southern region of the country.
Groundbreaking Ceremony and Government Participation
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin participating virtually. This event follows an 18-month period after Dabur India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government in August 2024 to set up the plant. The company aims to have the facility operational within six months, according to sources within the organization.
Investment and Phased Development
The total investment for this project is set at Rs 400 crore, which will be executed in two distinct phases. The first phase will concentrate on the production of key consumer products, including toothpaste, honey, rosewater, and air fresheners. This phase is expected to have an installed capacity of approximately 11,000 metric tons (MT).
The second phase will shift focus to the food and beverage portfolio, further diversifying the plant's output and enhancing Dabur's product offerings in the region.
Commitment to Sustainability and Local Sourcing
Hrishikesh Ramani, Vice-President of Manufacturing at Dabur India, emphasized the company's dedication to building a world-class manufacturing facility. The plant will be powered entirely by renewable energy, aligning with global sustainability standards and reducing its carbon footprint.
Ramani also highlighted the employment strategy, noting that the facility will employ a predominantly women workforce. Additionally, Dabur is working towards ensuring that a significant portion of its value chain is sourced locally from Tamil Nadu, thereby supporting the regional economy and fostering community development.

This new plant represents a major step in Dabur India's expansion strategy, enabling the company to better serve the southern Indian market.
