Hisense Inaugurates First Indian Manufacturing Facility in Andhra Pradesh

Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances leader Hisense has officially opened its inaugural manufacturing plant in India, located at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. This strategic move marks a significant expansion of the company's global production footprint into the Indian market.

Facility Details and Investment

The new manufacturing facility spans an impressive 10 acres and has been established by Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited. EMTPL operates as part of the Hisense–Epack Durable joint venture partnership.

The plant is situated within Epack Durable's industrial park, adjacent to its existing original design manufacturer (ODM) manufacturing facility. The project represents a substantial capital investment exceeding $30 million, approximately equivalent to Rs 272 crore.

Production Capacity and Phased Expansion

Currently, the facility is conducting pilot production operations. The initial installed capacity is set at 7.5 lakh room air conditioners annually, which constitutes the primary focus of the project's first phase. Once fully operational, this plant will exclusively manufacture room air conditioners for Hisense India, accounting for 100% of the company's room air conditioner production within the country.

The company has outlined a comprehensive multi-phase expansion strategy. In the second phase, scheduled for the second quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year, the facility will introduce production lines for both top load and front load washing machines. Subsequently, the third phase, planned for the third quarter of 2026-27, will see the addition of LED television manufacturing capabilities.

Employment and Economic Impact

The new manufacturing plant currently employs approximately 500 individuals across various functions. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the facility is projected to support nearly 1,500 jobs in total. Active hiring is underway for positions spanning supply chain management, finance, administration, technical roles, and skilled manufacturing operations.

Strategic Alignment and Leadership Perspectives

This manufacturing initiative forms a crucial component of Hisense's localization strategy and aligns directly with the Indian government's flagship 'Make in India' initiative, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependency.

Pankaj Rana, CEO of Hisense India, emphasized that the new plant will significantly enhance the company's control over product quality, cost management, and supply chain efficiency. Additionally, it will enable greater product customization tailored specifically to the preferences and requirements of Indian consumers.

Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO of Epack Durable, highlighted that the facility will adhere to global manufacturing standards while simultaneously strengthening India's export-oriented production capabilities, contributing to the nation's economic growth and industrial development.
