Mahindra XUV 7XO SUV Makes Strong Market Entry with Over 93,000 Bookings
Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automotive giant, launched its highly anticipated mid-size SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO, in January this year. This new model represents a revamped and rebadged version of the immensely popular Mahindra XUV 700, further solidifying the company's position in India's fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment, which continues to experience robust consumer demand.
Pricing and Variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is strategically priced between ₹13,66 lakh and ₹24,29 lakh (ex-showroom), catering to a wide range of buyers. It is offered in six distinct trim options: AX, AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7 T, and AX7 L. Under the hood, customers can choose between a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel unit. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic unit, with the AX7, AX7 L, and AX7 T trims additionally featuring an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup for enhanced performance.
Impressive Booking Numbers and Initial Response
Since its launch, the Mahindra XUV 7XO has generated significant market buzz, raking in over 93,000 bookings in India. This figure includes bookings for its all-electric counterpart, the Mahindra XEV 9S, which was launched earlier. The combined success of these two SUVs underscores a strong initial consumer response, highlighting Mahindra's ability to capture attention in a crowded marketplace.
Top Trims Lead Demand in Variant Preferences
Among the six available trim options, the top-tier AX7 T and AX7 L variants have emerged as the most sought-after choices. These trims offer a variety of powertrain combinations, including petrol automatic, diesel manual, diesel automatic, and diesel automatic with AWD, though they do not include a petrol manual option. Additionally, they are available in both six and seven-seat configurations, providing buyers with flexibility and a broad selection to suit their needs.
Diesel Powertrain Dominates Booking Trends
Contrary to the notion that diesel is fading, the Mahindra XUV 7XO's diesel variants have taken a commanding lead, accounting for a substantial 75% of total bookings. In contrast, petrol variants have contributed the remaining 25%. This trend is reflected in production numbers, with Mahindra manufacturing 8,000 diesel variants in January compared to 3,123 petrol variants, clearly indicating diesel's continued appeal for this SUV.
Extended Waiting Periods Across Variants
The high demand for the Mahindra XUV 7XO has resulted in extended waiting periods, ranging from 17 to 52 weeks depending on the variant. The base AX variant faces the longest wait of up to 52 weeks. For the top-end AX7L, diesel variants require a 26-week wait, while petrol variants have a shorter 17-week timeline. The AX3 and AX5 variants each come with an estimated 22-week waiting period. Meanwhile, the AX7 T and petrol-powered AX7 trims have around four weeks of waiting, and the AX7 diesel variant commands up to six weeks.
