MP Power Discom Accelerates Infrastructure Expansion to Support Industrial Growth in Indore Region

With industrial electricity demand continuing to surge across western Madhya Pradesh, the MP Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd (MPPKVVCL) has significantly accelerated the expansion and modernization of power distribution infrastructure in major industrial clusters throughout the Indore region. This comprehensive initiative encompasses key industrial areas including Palda, Rau, Polo Ground, Sanwer Road, Pithampur, Dewas, and Ujjain, addressing the growing energy needs of the region's thriving industrial sector.

Targeted Infrastructure Upgrades Across Industrial Hubs

Officials have confirmed substantial progress in multiple locations. In Sector-3 of Pithampur, the grid capacity has been increased by 5 MVA, while the grid near the Bajaj Tempo industrial area is scheduled for an additional 5 MW capacity augmentation by next month. Simultaneously, system strengthening work has been carried out at key substations to enhance reliability and effectively manage peak-hour load demands.

For Indore city's industrial pockets, a detailed proposal has been prepared for the establishment of three new substations. Furthermore, transformers have been strategically installed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to significantly strengthen the distribution network that specifically caters to industrial consumers.

Regional Focus on Network Stability and Safety

In the Dewas industrial area, specialized work on high-tension power lines using mono poles has been undertaken to enhance both network stability and safety protocols. Meanwhile, in Ujjain, comprehensive maintenance and upgradation work has been successfully completed on four industrial grids. This initiative is designed to support the increasing electricity demand from diverse sectors including pharmaceutical manufacturing, engineering units, and food-processing facilities.

Strategic Alignment with Future Demand Projections

The discom's managing director, Anoop Kumar Singh, emphasized that these extensive upgrades are strategically aligned with future demand projections. "Industrial growth in the Indore region has led to a steady and significant rise in electricity consumption. Our primary focus remains on timely capacity augmentation, comprehensive grid modernization, and improved power quality to ensure uninterrupted and reliable supply to all industries," he stated.

Sustained Growth in Industrial Power Consumption

This expansion drive coincides with sustained growth in industrial electricity consumption across the region. Recent power distribution data reveals a notable 6.25% increase in industrial and high-tension (HT) demand during the calendar year 2025 compared to the same period last year. This upward trend clearly reflects steady and robust industrial activity throughout western Madhya Pradesh.

Monthly Consumption Patterns and Peak Demand

According to detailed discom reports, December emerged as one of the highest power-consuming months, with industries drawing approximately 78 crore units of electricity. The peak monthly consumption was recorded in February at 82 crore units, followed closely by January at 76 crore units and June at 73 crore units. In contrast, October registered the lowest consumption during 2025 at about 60 crore units, highlighting seasonal variations in industrial power usage.

The comprehensive infrastructure development program undertaken by MPPKVVCL represents a proactive approach to power management, ensuring that the Indore region's industrial sector receives the reliable and high-quality electricity supply necessary for continued economic expansion and development.
