Railway Safety Commissioner Approves New Doubling Line in Koraput
In a significant development for rail infrastructure in Odisha, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for the South Eastern Circle, Brajesh Kumar Mishra, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the newly constructed second railway line between Manabar and Jarati stations in Koraput district on Monday. The inspection marks a crucial step toward the full operationalization of this vital stretch.
Details of the New Railway Section
Officials confirmed that the 10-kilometer section is an integral part of the ambitious Kottavalasa–Kirandul doubling project under the Waltair division of the East Coast Railway. This newly laid line has been constructed using robust 60-kilogram rails and includes two major bridges. The entire infrastructure has been engineered to meet stringent 25-tonne axle load standards, ensuring durability and safety for heavy freight and passenger traffic.
Safety Checks and Speed Trials
As part of the mandatory safety protocol, speed trials were conducted on the section during the inspection. These trials were completed successfully, demonstrating the line's readiness for regular operations. Commissioner Brajesh Kumar Mishra stated, "After a thorough inspection and satisfactory speed trials, the section has been found fit for full-fledged commissioning." This approval underscores the rigorous safety standards maintained by Indian Railways.
Impact on Rail Operations
Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra highlighted the transformative potential of this project. He emphasized that the completion of this stretch will significantly enhance line capacity and improve the movement of both passenger and freight trains in the region. "This is an important milestone in the Kottavalasa–Kirandul doubling project and will help in ensuring smoother and faster rail operations," Bohra remarked. The doubling is expected to reduce congestion, increase train frequency, and boost economic connectivity in Koraput and surrounding areas.
Coordinated Efforts Behind the Achievement
The successful inspection and approval are the result of coordinated efforts across multiple departments. Officials noted that civil engineering, construction, signal & telecom, and electrical departments worked in close collaboration with the operations and traffic planning teams of the Waltair division. This multidisciplinary approach ensured that the project met all technical and operational requirements, paving the way for its timely completion and safety certification.
The commissioning of this new line is poised to strengthen rail infrastructure in eastern India, supporting regional development and improving transportation efficiency for commuters and industries alike.
