Sigma Advanced Systems Acquires AS Strategic in Major Aerospace Move
In a strategic expansion of its global footprint, Hyderabad-headquartered Sigma Advanced Systems has successfully acquired Delhi-based AS Strategic in a deal valued at approximately Rs 30 crore. This acquisition represents a calculated step by Sigma to solidify its position as a globally embedded player in the aerospace and defence sector, moving beyond component manufacturing into the higher-value realm of systems integration.
Expanding European Defence Programme Access
The acquisition significantly enhances Sigma's direct participation in critical European defence programmes. AS Strategic brings with it a robust, export-ready portfolio that is perfectly aligned with India's national priorities of indigenisation and boosting defence exports. The Delhi-based firm has cultivated long-standing relationships and operates through exclusive joint ventures and service partnerships with major European and global defence original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Notably, AS Strategic possesses a substantial order book exceeding Rs 315 crore for 2026, which is predominantly linked to ongoing European defence initiatives. This deal grants Sigma immediate access to established partnerships with prominent European defence companies, including AbraWorks, Escribano, and Arquimea.
Building a Vertically Integrated Global Platform
This acquisition builds strategically upon Sigma's recent purchase of UK-based Nasmyth. Company officials explained the complementary nature of the two moves: while Nasmyth contributed precision manufacturing capabilities and Tier-1 supply chain integration expertise, AS Strategic adds crucial programme access and deep customer proximity within the complex European defence ecosystems.
"Together, Nasmyth and AS Strategic create a vertically integrated platform, combining Western OEM proximity with India-based engineering and manufacturing execution," stated Sigma Advanced Systems. "This positions Sigma as a globally embedded aerospace and defence company rather than a standalone sub-system supplier."
Strategic Shift Towards In-House Capabilities
Sigma has outlined clear post-acquisition integration plans. A key objective involves shifting AS Strategic's historically outsourced manufacturing activities towards in-house production and engineering at Sigma's facilities in India. This transition, which will be subject to necessary consultations and approvals from OEM partners, is aimed at improving operational margins and strengthening Sigma's control over quality assurance, delivery timelines, and full lifecycle support for its products.
Emphasising the strategic value beyond mere capacity addition, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO of Sigma Advanced Systems, remarked, "AS Strategic is not a capacity add for us. It is a capability and credibility add." This statement underscores the acquisition's role in enhancing Sigma's technical expertise and its standing within the global defence supply chain.
The move is seen as a significant step for Sigma in climbing the value chain, from being a component manufacturer to becoming a comprehensive systems integrator with a formidable presence in both Indian and international aerospace and defence markets.
