The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) has officially announced the Class 10 results for the High School Certificate Examination 2026, along with the detailed merit list. This year's results reveal a notable tie at the top, with three students securing the first rank with identical scores, highlighting the intense competition among the state's top performers.
Merit List Highlights
The merit list showcases multiple shared positions across various ranks, particularly at Rank 2 and Rank 5, underscoring the narrow margins that separate the highest-achieving students. The following table presents the top five ranks and the students who achieved them:
- Rank 1: Sandhya Nayak (Mahasamund), Parirani Pradhan (Mahasamund), Anshul Sharma (Mungeli) - 594/600 (99.00%)
- Rank 2: Riya Kesharwani (Kabirdham), Ranu Siddhimayi Sahu (Mahasamund), Renuka Pradhan (Mahasamund), Dipanshi Bouddh (Raipur), Nandita Dewangan (Mungeli) - 593/600 (98.83%)
- Rank 3: Kalpana Yadav (Raipur) - 592/600 (98.67%)
- Rank 4: Sahil Bareth (Durg), Aditya Basu (Raipur) - 591/600 (98.50%)
- Rank 5: Vishal Yadav (Raipur), Girija Pradhan (Raigarh) - 590/600 (98.33%)
Key Observations
This year's results are characterized by a clustering of top scores. The first rank is shared by three students, each achieving 594 out of 600 marks, equivalent to 99 percent. The second rank features an even larger group of five students, all scoring 593 marks. This pattern of narrow score differences continues down the merit list, indicating that a single mark can significantly impact a student's final ranking.
Geographically, the Mahasamund district has a strong representation in the top ranks, with multiple students appearing in both Rank 1 and Rank 2. Raipur and Mungeli districts also feature prominently, reflecting consistent academic excellence in these regions.
Overall Performance
Alongside the toppers, the CGBSE reported an overall pass percentage of 77.15 percent for the Class 10 examinations. Female students outperformed their male counterparts, with a pass percentage of 81.03 percent compared to 72.27 percent for boys. Out of more than 3.16 lakh students who appeared for the exam, over 2.43 lakh candidates successfully passed, with a substantial number securing first division marks.
Implications of the Merit List
The clustering of ranks suggests that the difference between top-performing students is minimal. A variation of just one or two marks has caused students to shift between ranks, particularly from Rank 1 to Rank 3. This reflects a highly competitive evaluation cycle where small score differences determine final positions. For schools and districts, the results highlight areas where academic performance is consistently strong.
