Woman Constable Suspended in Rajasthan for Unprofessional Behaviour
A woman constable posted at a police station in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district has been suspended after a photograph showing her resting her feet on a desk while an elderly man waited to lodge a complaint went viral on social media. The incident occurred at the Sabla police station, prompting immediate action from senior officials.
Photo Goes Viral, Sparks Outrage
The image, which circulated widely on platforms like Twitter and Facebook, depicted the constable with her feet propped up on the table as the elderly man stood nearby, apparently waiting for assistance. According to reports, the elderly man had come to file a complaint regarding a land dispute. The photo drew sharp criticism from netizens, who condemned the constable's lack of professionalism and insensitivity towards the elderly.
Senior Officials Take Swift Action
Upon noticing the viral post, Dungarpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Jain ordered an inquiry into the matter. The probe confirmed the constable's misconduct, leading to her immediate suspension. SP Jain stated, "The constable has been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty and unprofessional conduct. Such behaviour is unacceptable in the police force." He added that a departmental inquiry has been initiated, and strict action will be taken against the erring officer.
Police Department Emphasises Accountability
The incident has reignited discussions about accountability and behaviour of police personnel, especially towards vulnerable sections of society. The Rajasthan Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that citizens are treated with respect. In a statement, the department said, "The public's trust is paramount, and any act that undermines it will be dealt with seriously."
Elderly Man Finally Lodges Complaint
Following the constable's suspension, the elderly man was able to lodge his complaint with another officer at the station. Local residents expressed relief at the swift action but called for better training and sensitisation of police staff.
