Student with 60% Vision Loss Scores 83%
Aditya Acharya, a Class 10 student from Urmi School, overcame significant visual impairment to score 83.3% and secure the 87.87th percentile in the English-medium board examinations. Aditya has been affected by albinism since birth, causing nearly 60% vision loss. This condition makes it challenging for him to read books, newspapers, or see the blackboard clearly. Family members noted that constant movement of his eyeballs affects his focus on text.
Despite sitting on the front bench, Aditya relied on attentive listening during classroom teaching. His grandfather, 76-year-old Dipak Acharya, played a vital role in his preparation by reading lessons aloud throughout the academic year. His mother, Krupa Acharya, shared that Aditya has consistently performed well, scoring above 80% since primary school and securing first rank in Class 1. "There is no treatment for his condition, but he has always believed he can overcome challenges," she said.
His father, Mihir Acharya, who works for a food company in Jambusar, and other family members emphasized that Aditya never let his limitations affect his confidence. Aditya credited his parents, teachers, classmates, and grandfather for their unwavering support. He now plans to pursue commerce and aims to prepare for competitive examinations, with the goal of clearing the GPSC.
