The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) announced the results of the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) on Monday, alongside the Class 12 science outcomes. The examination, conducted on March 29, serves as a gateway for admissions to engineering and pharmacy courses across the state.
Key Statistics
A total of 1,32,319 students appeared for the exam out of 1,36,071 registered candidates. Among them, 52,757 students failed to secure even the 40th percentile, highlighting significant challenges in meeting basic qualifying benchmarks. In contrast, 1,459 students achieved above the 99th percentile, including 695 from Group A (engineering) and 764 from Group B (pharmacy). Additionally, 13,410 candidates scored above the 90th percentile.
Gender and Group-wise Participation
The exam saw 71,086 boys and 61,233 girls appearing. In Group A, 56,865 of 58,507 registered candidates appeared, while Group B had 75,188 of 77,182 registrants. Group AB registered 382 students, of whom 266 took the test.
Performance Gap
Officials noted a wide gap between high achievers and struggling candidates. Specifically, 22,812 students from Group A and 29,945 from Group B failed to cross the 40th percentile. Educators have flagged the need for academic support to improve foundational understanding in core subjects.
The results are crucial for determining admissions to professional courses. Out of the total registered, 3,752 candidates remained absent.
