A parliamentary committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, led by Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, has asserted that the ultimate responsibility for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) controversy lies with the Prime Minister. The observation was made during a meeting with officials, according to sources.
Committee's Stance
The committee, which is examining issues related to NEET, emphasized that accountability for the examination's conduct and any irregularities rests at the highest level of government. Members expressed concerns over the handling of the exam and demanded a thorough investigation.
Meeting Details
During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Education were questioned about the steps taken to ensure transparency and fairness in NEET. The panel noted that the Prime Minister's Office must take direct responsibility for resolving the matter.
The committee has also sought detailed documentation on the examination process, including the selection of testing agencies and the implementation of security measures.
Political Reactions
Opposition parties have backed the committee's stance, calling for a comprehensive review of the examination system. They argue that the NEET issue highlights systemic failures in the education sector.
The government has not yet officially responded to the committee's observations.
