Sisodia: NEET no longer clean, education system needs overhaul

Manish Sisodia, AAP's Punjab affairs in-charge and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, declared that the NEET examination is no longer credible and called for a complete overhaul of India's education system. He made the remarks while addressing over 700 meritorious students at the Bright Minds Punjab 2026 programme held at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar on Saturday.

Sisodia criticises examination system as 'rotten'

Responding to a student's question about the recent NEET paper leak, Sisodia said the country's examination system is built to torture students and is out of step with the age of AI and quantum science. "In the US and Europe, children are evaluated on their abilities and learning potential over several years, rather than being judged through a single test," he said. He urged students to think critically about these systems and understand their power as citizens.

Sisodia noted that 95 per cent of the students present had identified paper leaks as the biggest concern in the education system. "NEET is no longer clean. Banning Telegram or changing the mode of transporting examination papers won't stop paper leaks. Is it a joke? So many students have died by suicide," he said.

Political journey rooted in education reform

Sisodia explained that he entered politics specifically to reform education. "I want every student in India to receive quality education free of cost, and all political parties must work towards that," he said. He also referenced the Cockroach Janta Party movement sparked by Abhijit Dipke, highlighting the power of Gen Z. "One person sitting in the US could spark a movement with just one social media post. You need to prepare yourselves to live in this country with dignity and respect," he added.

Punjab education minister announces reforms

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, speaking at the same event, announced that the state has outranked Kerala in school learning outcomes and topped India's education index, citing NITI Aayog's 2026 report and the Centre's PGI 2.0 rankings. He said PSEB examination answer sheets will now be made available online to strengthen trust and fairness.

Bains also revealed plans to establish four artificial intelligence universities, the country's first digital university, and add 20,000 more seats across government colleges in Punjab.
