Response from Forest Department

Forest department officials have launched a search operation to track the tiger and prevent further incidents. They have advised residents in the surrounding villages to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into the fields alone, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

“We are deploying camera traps and additional patrols in the area to locate the animal. Compensation for the victim will be processed as per government norms,” said a forest department spokesperson.

Rising Human-Wildlife Conflict in Karnataka

This attack adds to a growing number of human-wildlife conflicts in Karnataka, particularly in regions bordering forests. Mysuru district, which lies near the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, has witnessed several such incidents in recent years. Conservationists attribute the rise to habitat fragmentation and encroachment into wildlife corridors.

Local farmers have expressed concern over safety and called for more effective measures to mitigate conflict, such as better fencing and early warning systems.
