Chennai: Kefira, a CBSE Class XII student from the city, discovered that two pages from her mathematics answer sheet were not scanned, and the copy contained repeated pages. She had hoped to secure 195 out of 200 cut-off marks for engineering admissions but received only 187 out of 200. She now anxiously awaits her revaluation results to secure a seat in a top engineering college.
Kefira is not alone. Hundreds of students in Chennai who were dissatisfied with their marks in Class XII mathematics and physics examinations have applied for revaluation of their answer scripts. However, they remain uncertain about when the revaluation results will be announced, as the board is accepting applications until Saturday, and teachers have indicated that the revaluation process has not yet started.
“We were asked to assemble at the revaluation centre for two consecutive days. However, the centre authorities asked us to leave because they did not receive the link to the answer scripts. We are unsure whether the revaluation will be completed on time and results will be declared before the release of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) rank list on June 29,” said a teacher from a city school who applied for revaluation of CBSE Class XII answer scripts.
Anitha, a mathematics teacher from a city school, noted that students who expected full marks received scores around 80 to 85 marks. “Teachers did not award marks for steps that were unfamiliar to them. CBSE students preparing for JEE often solve questions using different methods. These discrepancies could have been avoided during physical evaluation of answer scripts, as evaluators could have consulted with others or chief examiners,” she explained.
Some teachers observed that more students have applied for revaluation this year, making it challenging to complete the process before June.
Last year, TNEA received over 27,000 applications from CBSE students. This year, more than 25,000 CBSE Class XII students are expected to apply for engineering counselling.
Many parents have urged the TNEA committee to postpone the release of the engineering rank list until the CBSE Class XII revaluation results are declared this year.
As of Friday, the last day to apply for engineering counselling, TNEA has received 2,43,476 applications.
