Lucknow University Revamps LLB Evaluation Pattern with 75:25 Ratio
LU Revamps LLB Evaluation: 75:25 Ratio Now

Students enrolled in the LLB 3-year and 5-year programmes at Lucknow University will now need to maintain consistent academic performance throughout the year, rather than relying solely on last-minute exam preparation. In accordance with the updated regulations from the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the recommendations outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP), the university has revised its evaluation framework.

New Evaluation Ratio: 75:25

Under the revised system, student performance will be assessed using a 75:25 ratio. This means that 75% of the weightage will be allocated to the written theory examination, while the remaining 25% will be based on internal assessment components such as assignments, projects, and attendance. Previously, the ratio stood at 90:10, giving more emphasis to the final exam.

Revised Passing Criteria

The criteria for passing an examination have also been updated. Students are no longer required to pass the theory and internal assessments separately. Instead, a student will be declared pass in a subject if they secure at least 40% marks combined from theory and internal assessment. However, to qualify for the next semester, a student must obtain an overall aggregate of at least 45% across all subjects in a given semester.

Additionally, it has been decided that no student will be failed in the first semester of either the 3-year or 5-year LLB programme.

Objective: Reduce Academic Stress

Lucknow University spokesperson Mukul Srivastava stated that these reforms are aimed at reducing academic stress among law students. The new evaluation pattern will also be implemented across all law courses offered by colleges affiliated with the university, ensuring a standardized approach to assessment.

These changes are expected to encourage continuous learning and a deeper understanding of the subject matter, rather than promoting rote memorization for end-of-term exams.
